A Section Leader Meeting was held on May 6th 2010. The following items of business were discussed:
Based on a lack of nominations the following individuals will serve as Section 603 officers for the 2010-2011 fiscal year:
Chris Bliersbach has volunteered to put together a newsletter for the section.
In keeping with our ‘electronic’ intent this will be distributed to the majority
of our members as a pdf attachment to an email. However, hard copies will be
sent by mail to those members who either do not have email or have requested
in their ASQ profile not to receive information in that manner.
There was considerable discussion on the type of activities and training that
we could make available to our members. ‘Tour Meetings’ of the kind some of
us remembered were mentioned and, after some comment we decided that as long
as we could share the information gained on these with all section members it
really didn’t matter too much which members, or how many, went on a tour or
participated in any other activity in any location. Therefore, all section
members are encouraged to send information regarding their activities to Chris
or myself so that they may be shared with the entire membership.
So tell us what you’ve been doing and what you thought about it!
A proposed revision in the administration of the Dean Williamson and Ted Didesch Memorial
Scholarship was described and discussed. Briefly, the change will transfer responsibility
for the administrative tasks of advertising, collecting applications, and reviewing
candidates to personnel at the University of Idaho rather than by a designated member of
the section. In addition to removing that burden from section leadership, this change
will also make the scholarships more widely available. Previously applications were only
distributed to graduating seniors of High Schools in the Idaho Falls area. Under the
change any student in the industrial technology program at any University of Idaho campus
will be eligible to apply. Section Leadership will retain the decision over how many, if
any, scholarships will be offered each year as well as final approval of the applicants.
This change has been the submitted to the ASQ Award Board who will consider our request
prior to passing it on to the ASQ National Board for approval.
Meanwhile - any graduating High School Senior within the Section 0603 area who plans to
be a full-time student attending a college, university, or trade school in a course of
study leading to a career in quality, engineering, or science that would like to be
considered for a $500 scholarship under the current process may apply by sending the
following to me at 935 Koster Ave, Idaho Falls ID 83404 before July 31st:
1. Full name and address
2. Copy of your High School transcript with > 2.5 GPA
3. Letter of recommendation from a representative of your High School
4. Name and location of the school you plan to attend
5. Approximate cost per year
6. A description of any other scholarship/financial aid you have been granted
7. A brief explanation of why you need assistance
8. Any special circumstances as to why you feel you deserve this assistance
9. A personal letter indicating your planned course of study, an approximate schedule
for completion of your course of study, your plans for a career, and a statement that,
if granted, the $500 will be used to help pay for books, tuition, or fees.
I will attend Member Leader Training as part of the ASQ
World Conference on Quality and Improvement conference being held in
St Louis May 22nd through 27th.
